Mount Joy was named by the Scots-Irish.
They named our town after the ship Mount Joy. It gave the starving people food during hard times. It saved hundreds of people. That is why they decided to honer the great ship that saved them. Now in the center of our town we have a model of the big ship. Under the ship there is a description of why it is there. Without that one ship all those people would have starved to death! They were very thankful for the great ship Mount Joy.
